Equipped with gloves, litter pickers, and lots of enthusiasm, the children worked together to collect rubbish from the surrounding community areas. This hands-on experience encouraged the children to develop a sense of responsibility for the world around them while learning how small actions can make a big difference.
The activity linked closely to our Banana Moon Curriculum, particularly within the areas of Us and Challenge, as children explored teamwork, problem-solving, and community awareness. The children showed great pride in helping to keep their environment clean and safe for everyone to enjoy.
Litter picking also provided many valuable learning opportunities. Children developed communication skills as they discussed recycling and caring for nature, physical skills through safely collecting litter, and confidence as they worked together with their peers. Most importantly, the experience helped nurture respect for the environment and encouraged positive habits that children can continue both at nursery and at home.
Our local community also benefited from the children’s efforts, with cleaner outdoor spaces creating a more welcoming environment for residents and visitors alike. It was wonderful to see the children so engaged and motivated to make a positive contribution to their community.
We are incredibly proud of the children for demonstrating kindness, teamwork, and environmental awareness throughout the activity. Sustainability remains an important focus for our nursery, and we look forward to continuing to teach our children how to care for the world around them through meaningful, real-life experiences.
